What it involves:
We have an online chat (with or without video).
I ask questions about your life and things that effect you - with the aim to understand your thought patterns, triggers, and behaviour lessons that you’ve acquired throughout your life. We then use this information to help you develop strategies for coping with tough times, communication, and self esteem.
Feel free to have a notebook, coffee, biscuits, your dog or whatever you want with you to feel comfortable.
No dress code - tuxedo or P.J.’s are fine. It’s your session.
What it IS NOT:
Formal, unfriendly, humourless - just not me, and neither of us want a difficult hour of conversation.
Pushing you to discuss things you don’t want to - that’s counterintuitive, it’ll make you feel worse and violated!
Blaming you for your thoughts/experiences - blame doesn’t help anyone. Learning strategies to move forward is the key. Plus, we’re all human, and we’ve all done silly things, and had bad things happen to us that we couldn’t help. So, no blame here.
Awkward, difficult, upsetting - actually, yes, at times it might be. But, that’s how we heal. Like putting ointment on a wound or ripping off a plaster - sometimes it’s easy, other times it’s short lived unpleasantness. Sorry, healing isn’t always easy. But, it is always worth it.
